Walden Records: Songs by Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart

In the 1950s, Walden Records—founded by Gershwin biographer Edward Jablonski—was a highly respected independent label specializing in the work of the great American songwriters. TMTP/Harbinger has remastered and reissued nearly all of the Walden albums, and this one is special: It’s another way of honoring lyricist Lorenz Hart, the subject of Blue Moon, our April film.

The songs are performed by two first-rate musical theater performers of the era: Bob Shaver and Louise Carlyle, with John Morris and David Baker providing the glittering piano arrangements. And the Rodgers & Hart songs are joined by 10 with music and lyrics by Cole Porter.

The best word to describe this set is Classy.
